| Spring Futurities Two Futurities were held back to back this spring. The Sundowner Stockdog/Crossfire Futurity in Oklahoma and the Cottonwood Crossing Futurity in Kansas. My entry was Jody, a Zack x Belle pup. In both futurities, Jody won the first go-round, finished in the second round and made both Finals in good position to win. However, unfortunate draws in both kept us from placing high in the final tally. Jody now belongs to Kenneth Beasley. Thanks Kenneth and good luck with Jody. |
| Sundowner Crossfire Challenge The last trial of the year for the Sundowner Association is the Crossfire Challenge held at the Crossfire Arena in Calera. This had 2 go-rounds and a finals. In the Open Class, Boomer finished 2nd. Bull now belongs to Kenneth Beasley but he was unable to compete himself so I ran Bull in the Novice and won 1st. |

Bryan County Invitational Cattledog Shootout An invitational trial was held in Bryan County the 3rd Saturday in October. Ten handlers from as far away as Wyoming and South Dakota were invited to go head to head with 2 dogs each for a $3000 first prize. After the first go-round the top 5 handlers came back with the dog of their pick for a sudden death finals to see who gets the biggest check. Boomer qualified me for the finals so Boomer and I took a run at 'em and finished 3rd. |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association Dog of the Year Awards At the conclusion of our October Sundowner Trials, Dog of the Year awards were handed out. Boomer finished 2nd for Open Dog of the Year. Congratulations to Randy Reed and Lucky for winning Open Dog of the Year. Zach finished 3rd. Bull, owned by Bill and Kathy Smock, won the Novice Dog of the Year. I want to thank Bill and Kathy for purchasing Bull from me and allowing me to campaign Bull on their behalf. They have now sold Bull to Kenneth Beasley of Atoka, Ok. |
| West Fork Challenge My friend Kirby Elenburg hosted the 3rd West Fork Challenge in Boyd, Texas. Kirby's trial consisted of 2 go-rounds and a finals. Boomer finished 1st in the Open ahead of 17 other dogs. Zach, owned by Dave Mollenhour, came in 3rd. |
| Oklahoma State Fair The State Fair Trial was absent last year due to construction but came back with a bang this year. A lot of good dogs and big tough cattle. When it was all said and done after one long go-round and a finals, Boomer won 1st in the Open and Zack won 3rd. In the Non-Open Class, Bull came back to the Finals in 1st place but drew a couple of 'killer' cows and wasn't able to hold that position. |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association September Trial The September trial moved to a very nice indoor facility owned by Wayne Carter in Calera, Ok. We had a nice field of dogs as everyone was anxious to run their dogs after the summer layover. On both Saturday and Sunday, Zack won 3rd in the Open. On Sunday, Bull won 1st in the Novice Class. Zac is still leading for Open Dog of the Year with one more regular season trial to go. |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association June Trial June is supposed to be warm and it didn't let us down. The June trial was moved to the outdoor arena in Caney, Ok. On Saturday, Boomer came in third in the Open with 18 Open dogs competing. Zach was 5th both days but it was enough to help him keep his lead for Open Dog of the Year. Bull won 1st in the Novice Class on Sunday. |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association May Trial After the Futurity in April, May was the return of the monthly trials of the Sundowner Stockdog Association. Saturday was a good start to the weekend with Zack winning 1st in the Open and Boomer coming in 2nd. Sunday was Bull's turn in the winners circle with a 2nd in the Novice Class. Also I would like to mention that Nuge is no longer in training with me. He went home with his owner, Kirby Elenburg of Jacksboro, Tx. Kirby and Nuge teamed up to win the Novice Class on Saturday and come in 3rd on Sunday. Congratulations Kirby and Nuge and "Good Luck" in the future. |

The 2007 Sundownder Stockdog Association Futurity hosts an Open and Non-Open Jackpot after the Futurity runs. Each dog ran on Friday and Saturday with the top 5 in each class going back to a 2 go-round clean slate Finals on Sunday. Bull, owned by Bill and Kathy Smock, finished 1st in the Non-Open Jackpot. Boomer, not pictured, finished 2nd in the Open Jackpot. |

Nuge, owned by Kirby Elenburg, finished 5th in the 2007 Sundowner Stockdog Association Futurity |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association March Trial It was time for another full weekend of trialing at the Sundowner Stockdog Association March trials. Bull was on the mark as he won the Novice Class on both Saturday and Sunday. This should have him in the lead for Dog of the Year in the Novice Class. April is the Sundowner Futurity with jackpots after the Futurity runs so May will be our next chance to earn points. |
| Sundowner Stockdog Association February Trial Sundowner Stockdog Association got the year started with the February trial because the weather was too bad to host one in January. Bull, owned by Bill and Kathy Smock, got the year started off right by winning 2nd in the Novice class on Saturday and 1st in the Novice class on Sunday. Boomer laid down a nice run in Sunday's Open to win a 2nd. This weekend's competition had entries from 4 states. |
